28 Jul 2010: Sine FM 'Book It' Awards Launched in partnership with Waterstones

Doncaster’s literature scene receives a boost today as Sine FM and Waterstone’s announce the launch of the ‘Book It Awards’ for budding local writers.
Representing an exciting opportunity for Doncaster writers and poets, the awards are open to anyone aged 13 and up who would like to hear their work on the radio.
The competition builds on the success of Sine FM’s ‘Book It!’ programme, which has featured interviews with best-selling author Joanne Harris, local horror writer Simon Clark, award-winning children’s author JA Henderson, and others.

The winning entries will be read out on the show, which is broadcast on Thursdays between 11am and noon.
In addition, Waterstone’s vouchers will be awarded to those considered the best in three categories: young writer (13 to 18 years old); best adult poet; and best adult short story writer. The winning entries will also be displayed in the Waterstone’s store at Frenchgate Centre.

Short stories should be approximately 2,000 to 2,500 words long. Poetry submissions should consist of between three to five poems of up to 40 lines each.
All submissions should be sent to bookitawards@sinefm.com no later than Thursday, 30th September. The panel judging the contest includes local author and radio presenter Stephanie Cage, short story writer Jo Stone, ‘Book It!’ presenter Sheila North, Sine FM Station Assistant Jon Kelly and Aileen Belle from the local branch of Waterstone’s.

For more information, please contact Jon Kelly via jon@sinefm.com or phone 01302 327769.

You can listen to the Book It programme every Thursday from 11 a.m.
You can also visit the Book It page and listen back to previous shows via the Sine FM online schedule.
