14 Jun 2011: Watch Out Orange: Local poet triumphs in Book It! Awards

Internationally published Doncaster authors Simon Clark and Andrew Newbound got together last Thursday (9 June) with the local branch of Waterstone’s and Sheila North, presenter of Sine FM’s ‘Book It!’, to present Lyn Wilkinson with her prize for winning the poetry section of Doncaster’s second annual ‘Book It!’ Awards.

Babette McCullough won for best short story. She will receive her prize at a later ceremony.

Simon Clark said: ‘I was very pleased to be asked to take part in this year’s awards ceremony. There are a lot of talented writers in Doncaster, of which Lyn is a wonderful example.’

‘It was tough choosing the winners this year,’ Sheila said. ‘The quality of entries bodes well for the Doncaster writing scene.’

The ‘Book It!’ awards are an annual prize for short stories and poetry, organised by the local branch of Waterstone’s, and Sine FM. ‘Book It!’ is a weekly Doncaster radio programme about books and writing which attracts online listeners from as far away as the US, Canada, and Australia. Tune in to ‘Book It!’ on Thursdays at 11 am on 102.6 FM, or online at www.sinefm.com.
